Ficus elastica 'Abidjan', also known as the rubber tree, originates from the tropical regions of Southeast Asia. This plant species has its roots in India, Malaysia, and Indonesia, where it grows in tropical rainforests. Today, Ficus elastica 'Abidjan' is cultivated worldwide as a houseplant.
Ficus elastica 'Abidjan' has large, glossy leaves that display a rich, dark red to almost black color. This color gives the plant a unique, striking appearance. Under the right conditions, this type of rubber tree can grow to a height of two to three meters. Ficus elastica 'Abidjan' develops into a strong and robust plant that can grow quickly.
Ficus elastica 'Abidjan' needs sufficient indirect sunlight to grow well. It is important to keep the soil moist, but too much water can cause root rot. As it is a tropical plant, it is recommended to keep the humidity high, for example, by regular misting. During the winter months, it is advisable to reduce watering.
