The elegant and impressive ATLAS solid wood coffee table is made of solid, oiled oak and was named after the mythical titan "Atlas", who was condemned to carry the heavens on his shoulders. The massive legs of the Atlas table support the generous tabletop. The encounter and contrast between the legs and the tabletop is a central element of the design of this exclusive table, where each element surpasses the other, giving the table its distinctive presence and impressive charisma.

For Atlas, John Astbury drew inspiration from various influences in architectural history. There are allusions to porticos and colonnades, but Atlas is primarily based on the archetypal post and lintel construction. Combined with simple geometry, the circle and the square, these are the primary archetypes that together form the character and composition of the table. The Atlas side and coffee table asserts its place in the living room with its solid, handcrafted expression and enchants everyone who gathers around it, from small to large gatherings.

Designer John Astbury

John Astbury's design studio was founded in 2014 and is located in Stockholm, Sweden. After previously studying anthropology in England, John Astbury completed a design degree at Konstfack, University of Arts, Crafts and Design, in 2011. Based on archetypes, his work reduces the object to its fundamentals, revealing material, structure, and form. A language of absolute simplicity that simultaneously makes visible the dialogues and symbols surrounding the object.
