The Strelitzia nicolai originates from South Africa. It is a plant species of the Strelitziaceae family. The plant is named after the Russian Tsar Nicholas I.

It is a tall plant with leathery, shiny leaves. The leaves are dark green, lance-shaped, and can grow up to two meters long. The plant produces striking white and blue flowers that resemble the head of a bird of paradise, hence the name. The flowers usually bloom in late winter or early spring.

The Strelitzia nicolai needs a lot of light but does not tolerate direct sunlight well. The plant requires plenty of water, especially during the growing season, but it is also important to ensure good drainage to prevent waterlogging. This plant prefers nutrient-rich soil and can benefit from regular fertilization during the growing period. The Strelitzia nicolai can be placed outdoors in summer but needs protection from frost in winter.
