Magna Graecia Collection

Designed by Antonio Aricò, the "Magna Graecia" collection of terracotta objects is a reinterpretation of Greek relics from Southern Italy in a cartoon style. Shaped by Mediterranean culture, Antonio Aricò worked all over the world before returning to Calabria, where he grew up. Greek culture is very present in this region, which is teeming with statues and artifacts. In some villages, a derivative of Greek is still spoken, more than 2500 years after the occupation...

With "Magna Graecia," Antonio Aricò interprets this Greek heritage using terracotta, all in a playful and contemporary spirit. "Magna Graecia" reflects an imaginary world that is more Mediterranean than Calabrian. It refers to the Great Greece of antiquity, but also to the Roman emperors and Sicilian traditions such as the Testa di Moro.

To create the numerous pieces in this collection, the designer gathered many drawings, which he then translated into volumes using 3D software. The lines of these drawings were subsequently reproduced identically in terracotta.

Antonio Aricò: "It is the first time in my career as a designer that the finished pieces look exactly as I drew them. One finds in them modernity, but also the purity of traditional manufacturing. I absolutely did not want to create replicas or souvenirs. These pieces are contemporary and conceived in a fun spirit, which is the spirit of Seletti."

The pieces are adorned with familiar motifs of Doric and Ionic columns, wave motifs, as well as erotic motifs, such as those discovered as a child on ancient vases. Among the highlights of the collection are numerous busts and statues, carved in reference to antiquity and inspired by the mysterious "Bronzes of Riace," warrior statues from the fifth century BC. The designer has conceived female figures: women and men are thus mixed, as in Greek culture, in a certain gender fluidity.

"Magna Graecia" tells an ancient story that, through Seletti, finds its own way into contemporary daily life - with irony and grace.

So wirken die Kaffeebecher wie die Plastikbecher eines Coffee to go, während die Zuckerdose die Ästhetik einer Konservendose nachahmt. Das klassische Weiß lässt die Objekte des Tafelservice edel wirken, während die ausgefallenen, modernen Formgebungen Ihnen bei jedem Gebrauch ein Lächeln ins Gesicht zaubern werden. Auch mit Entwürfen wie dem Accessoire Set Submarino für das Badezimmer zeigt Seletti seine spielerische Seite, die Humor und Fantasie in Ihren Alltag bringt: Das Set mit Seifenspender und Platz für die Zahnbürste sowie zwei Fächern für Kleinigkeiten orientiert sich an den Farben eines U-Bootes und ist in farbenfrohen Tönen auch bei Madeindesign erhältlich.
