The elegant and impressive solid wood bench ATLAS is made of solid oak and was named after the mythical Titan "Atlas", who is condemned to carry the heavens on his shoulders; the massive legs of the Atlas bench support the seat. The convergence and contrast between the legs and the seat is a central element of the design of this exclusive bench, where each element surpasses the other, giving the bench its distinctive presence and impressive aura.

For Atlas, John Astbury was inspired by various influences from architectural history. There are allusions to porticoes and colonnades, but Atlas is primarily based on the archetypal post-and-lintel construction. Combined with the simple geometry of the circle and the square, these are the primary archetypes that together make up the character and composition of the table. The Atlas bench asserts its place in the dining room or any other room with its solid, artisanal expression and enchants everyone who sits on it, from small to large gatherings.

Designer John Astbury

John Astbury's design studio was founded in 2014 and is located in Stockholm, Sweden. After previously studying anthropology in England, John Astbury completed a design degree at Konstfack, University of Arts, Crafts and Design, in 2011. Starting from archetypes, his work reduces the object to its fundamentals, revealing material, structure, and form. A language of absolute simplicity that simultaneously makes visible the dialogues and symbols surrounding the object.

• New Works wurde von Nikolaj Meier und Knut Bendik Humlevik aus dem Wunsch heraus gegründet, ein Designhaus zu gründen, in dem Design mit Sorgfalt und Absicht zum Leben erweckt wird und in dem es Raum für kreative Experimente gibt - ein Ort für neue Arbeiten. Während Nikolaj als CEO mit Zahlen und dem Tagesgeschäft jongliert, ist Knut Bendik als Creative Director für das besondere Erscheinungsbild verantwortlich. Gemeinsam mit einem kleinen, engagierten Team machen sie sich auf den Weg, eine kuratierte Kollektion gehobener, aber dennoch zugänglicher Wohnobjekte zu definieren. Mit diesem Ziel gestalten sie die sich ständig weiterentwickelnde Geschichte von New Works.
