The TONQUIN design was originally used to decorate black jasper porcelain. The porcelain was hand-painted using an encaustic color technique - a great art. Typically, the TONQUIN design consists of natural floral elements, painted boldly and brightly, which was very popular at the beginning of the 19th century. In the 20th century, Tonquin was reinterpreted by designer Victor Skellern. It was mainly used on fine bone china.
