Designer coffee table "Atlas* from solid travertine - 60 x 60 cm
The elegant and impressive marble salon table ATLAS is made of precious travertine marble and named after the mythical titan "Atlas", doomed to carry the sky on his shoulders, the massive legs of the Atlas table support the generous table top. The meeting and contrast between the legs and the tabletop is central to the design of this exclusive table, where each element outshines the other, giving the table its unmistakable presence and striking appeal. For Atlas, John Astbury drew inspiration from various influences in architectural history. There are allusions to porticoes and colonnades, but Atlas is based primarily on the archetypal post and lintel construction. Combined with the simple geometry, the circle and the square, these are the primary archetypes that together make up the character and composition of the table. The Atlas dining table asserts its place in the dining room with its solid, crafted expression, enchanting all who gather around it, from small to large company.
Designer John Astbury
John Astbury's design studio was founded in 2014 and is based in Stockholm, Sweden. Having previously studied anthropology in England, John Astbury completed a design degree at Konstfack, College of Arts and Crafts in 2011. Taking archetypes as a starting point, his work reduces the object to its basics, exposing material, structure and form. A language of absolute simplicity that at the same time makes visible the dialogues and symbols that surround the object.

New Works was founded by Nikolaj Meier and Knut Bendik Humlevik out of a desire to create a design house where design is brought to life with care and intention and where there is room for creative experimentation - a place for new work. While Nikolaj juggles numbers and the day-to-day business as CEO, Knut Bendik is responsible for the special look and feel as Creative Director. Together with a small, dedicated team, they set out to define a curated collection of upscale, yet accessible, residential properties. With this goal in mind, they are shaping New Works' ever-evolving story.
