Shaped by Mediterranean culture, Antonio Aricò worked all over the world before returning to Calabria, where he grew up. Greek culture is very present in this region, which is teeming with statues and artifacts. In some villages, a derivative of Greek is still spoken, more than 2,500 years after the occupation...\n\nWith \"Magna Graecia,\" Antonio Aricò interprets this Greek heritage using terracotta, all in a playful and contemporary spirit. \"Magna Graecia\" reflects an imaginary world that is more Mediterranean than Calabrian. It refers to the Magna Graecia of antiquity, but also to Roman emperors and Sicilian traditions such as the Testa di Moro.\n\nTo create the many pieces in this collection, the designer gathered numerous drawings, which he then translated into volumes using 3D software. The lines of these drawings were then identically reproduced in the terracotta.\n\nAntonio Aricò: \"It is the first time in my career as a designer that the finished pieces look exactly as I drew them. You find in them modernity, but also the purity of traditional craftsmanship. I absolutely did not want to create replicas or souvenirs. These pieces are contemporary and conceived in a fun spirit, which is the spirit of Seletti.\"\n\nThe pieces are adorned with familiar motifs of Doric and Ionic columns, wave motifs, and erotic motifs, like those discovered as a child on ancient vases. Highlights of the collection include numerous busts and statues, carved in imitation of antiquity and inspired by the mysterious \"Bronzes of Riace,\" warrior statues from the fifth century BC.
